Mayura Tandava

"Caught mid-dance. Frozen in brass. Still moving."

When a peacock dances, it is not performing for an audience. It is expressing something it cannot contain. Joy, vitality, the ecstasy of being alive in a body that beautiful. The Mayura Tandava captures that expression at its most concentrated moment — the bird balanced on a single leg, one foot raised, body leaning forward with anticipation, and behind it, an open filigree tail fan of flowing brass scrollwork that rises like a flame of intricate curling tendrils.

This tail is unlike any other in the Kanasu peacock collection. Rather than feathers rendered in solid relief, the Mayura Tandava's tail is cast in open-work brass filigree — a lattice of curling acanthus scrolls, fine spirals, and flowing botanical forms that are entirely transparent, letting light pass through and casting delicate shadows on the surface beneath. In candlelight, the effect is extraordinary — the shadows move, the scrolls glow from within, and the bird appears to be mid-flight.

The body is dense with detail — dot clusters on the breast in the Madhubani tradition, layered scale feathers on the wings, a fine beaded necklace cast around the neck, and a crown of small orbs that catches the light above the head. The whole figure stands on a circular engraved base whose surface is carved with an all-over acanthus leaf pattern, the border beaded in a continuous raised ring.

Place it beside a candle or a diya, and the Mayura Tandava transforms the surface it sits on into a stage.
