There is a specific moment in a peacock's life that artists across Indian history have tried to capture — not the full display of the fanned tail, which is spectacle, but the moment just before or just after, when the tail sweeps wide and low behind the bird as it stands alert and tall. That moment is pure grace, unperformed. The Mayura Prasara captures exactly that.

Cast in solid brass, the peacock stands on a hand-cast tree stump base — its roots spreading at the base, its surface engraved with the textures of bark and knot. The bird's body is upright, head crowned with a fine brass crest, the chest engraved with a circular medallion of peacock feather eyes radiating from the centre. The back and wing feathers are carved in layered relief — scale upon scale, each one individually defined.

And then the tail. Sweeping wide and low to the left, the tail is the centrepiece of the sculpture — a cascading series of engraved feather sections, each carrying the classic peacock eye motif in the heart of dense scroll and foliage carving. The tail extends the length of the piece dramatically, giving the Mayura Prasara a horizontal presence unlike any other piece in the Kanasu catalogue. It is the sculpture that commands the length of a shelf or console rather than its height.

In the antique gold patina of the brass, the engraved recesses darken while the raised surfaces catch the light — giving the Mayura Prasara the depth and richness of something that has been handled and admired for a very long time.
