In every Vishnu temple in India, the deity's two most sacred attributes are displayed flanking the sanctum in pairs: the Shankha (divine conch) on the left, and the Sudarshana Chakra (spinning disc of cosmic order) on the right. They are never separated. They are the sound and the force of Vishnu's presence — one announces, one protects. The Shankha Chakra Deepa brings this ancient pairing into your pooja room as a matched set of two oil lamps, each lamp bearing one of Vishnu's attributes as its backpiece.
The Shankha lamp carries the conch shell rising from a beaded stem — the spiral of the Shankha rendered in detailed three-dimensional cast brass, flanked by flowing decorative fins that suggest both the ocean from which it was drawn and the divine breath that will fill it. The Chakra lamp carries the Sudarshana Chakra — the circular wheel of Vishnu, engraved at its centre with a radiating sun motif, ringed by the characteristic scalloped edge of the divine disc, flanked by identical decorative forms.
Beneath each backpiece, a multi-spout petal oil bowl sits on a beaded and engraved conical pedestal — wide, stable, and fully worked at every surface. The bright antique gold finish is warmer and brighter than the Mayura Deepa — catching the light more readily, glowing with particular richness when the oil flames are lit within.
Place them flanking your home altar exactly as the Shankha and Chakra flank Vishnu in the temple — Shankha on the left, Chakra on the right. Light both at dusk. Let the pair hold your space as it has held temple sanctums for a thousand years.
