"The face that has told every story India has ever needed to tell. On your wall, forever."

For over 400 years, the Kathakali performer has stood at the intersection of the divine and the human — dressed in two hours of intricate makeup, layers of costume, and a towering headdress, to become not a person but a force of nature. A god. A demon. A hero. The face is the first thing the audience sees and the last thing they remember. The Abhinaya Chakra takes that face — the most theatrical and iconographically precise face in all of Indian performing arts — and places it at the centre of a circular wall plate that commands every room it enters.

This is the Pacha (green) vesham — the hero's makeup type in Kathakali, worn by noble, divine, and virtuous characters: Krishna, Arjuna, Rama. The green face is chutti-worked — a technique unique to Kathakali where rice paste is applied layer by layer to the face over hours to build the characteristic raised white border that frames the green. The eyes are heavily outlined in black, the brows arched, the gaze direct and magnificent — the gaze of a character who has faced armies and remained unmoved.

Above the face rises the Kireetam — the elaborate Kathakali headdress, painted here in layered arcs of deep red, burnt orange, and forest green, each band decorated with floral dot motifs in white and gold. The teardrop ornaments at the temples and the rounded ear ornaments complete the full ceremonial adornment of a Kathakali hero in performance.

All of this sits on a sky blue ground — the blue of Kerala's skies, of the monsoon, of Krishna's skin — with a gold rim completing the Chakra. The Abhinaya Chakra is the most vibrant, colour-saturated piece in the Kanasu catalogue — and the one that most directly celebrates the living performance traditions of South India.
